During the 150th celebrations the library ran a number of competitions.
Judges Kate De Goldi, Gavin Bishop and Sally Blundell announced two winners: Nic Gorman in the adult section, and Kerry Lane in the youth section.

Thirty three Christchurch City Libraries staff teams — from managers to shelvers — created their own unique contemporary tukutuku panels with help from customers during Matariki and customers were asked to pick their favourites.
Customers were challenged to make a YouTube video for the 150 anniversary. There were winners in the kids, youth and adult categories.
During KidsFest there was a colouring-in competition for 5 to 13 year olds.
There was a fantastic response to their 150th anniversary children’s bookmark design competition with over 350 entries received from around Christchurch.

Students from three schools, Mt Pleasant, Cashmere and Parkview, participated in a learning challenge to develop a marketing product that would appeal to Library customers, incorporate the anniversary logo and be produced within a set budget of $2,000. The winner was Jayden Cawood.
