Parkview Primary School student Jayden Cawood entered the world of marketing thanks to his 150th anniversary teddy bear being selected as the winner in a competition held by Christchurch City Libraries.
Eleven-year old Jayden developed the marketing product while participating in, ‘Kids in Enterprise’, an Horizons course run at Waitikiri Learning Centre at Parklands Library.
Students from three schools, Mt Pleasant, Cashmere and Parkview, participated in the apprentice-style challenge over six weeks. During this time they had to develop a marketing product that would appeal to Library customers, incorporate the anniversary logo and be produced within a set budget of $2,000. Each stage of product development was covered including brainstorming, researching and the final nerve-racking presentation of their concept to a client. Cate Broughton, who coordinated the 150th celebrations, was the judge.
Project Leader for the 150th anniversary Annette Williams commented “we were really impressed with all of the ideas presented to us, but the universal appeal of the teddy bear is hard to beat!”
