A Special Birthday Cake

CakeA very special birthday cake was concocted for the formal birthday celebrations in the Central Library on Wednesday 5 August 2009.

Designed and made by Divine Cakes, the cake represented the old brick Canterbury Public Library on the corner of Cambridge Terrace and Hereford Street. The creative team of Emma, Nicki and Janine took about 12 hours to make the cake which they described as a labour of love and they were justifiably proud of the result. They visited the old building to take photographs and were inspired by all the detailing. The cake project was probably the most detailed 3D cake they had made.

Delicious details of the cake included flavour - chocolate mud cake, icing - white truffle underneath, coloured Royal icing on top, final weight - about 20kgs.

The cake was cut at 11 am by Gay Maher who had been an avid library customer for 60 years and 4 year old Mary Flatman who had just received her Ready for Reading pack.

At 11 am all the other libraries across the city cut their own delicious birthday cakes to share with their customers.
