    Reveille 5 am
    Up early to get ready for an inspection by General Sheveill. He is an Australian & often caused us a deuce of a lot of work getting things polished up to please him
    Our inspection over at 11 am & we were very pleased to get out of our uniforms & bandoliers & get in for a swim
    Finals of boxing contests in the evening & some very good contests Chaplain Wilson from Oamaru time keeper.

    Reveille 6 am
    Exercised horses up the beach in the morning & also swimming horses sea was lovely & calm
    Had rather a quiet day in the camp another swim in the afternoon. Church parade in the evening which I didn't manage to get to. Spent the evening over at the 8th South Canterbury lines. A few new men came up today some up to the 20th reinforcement but none of those I knew

  • Collection Description World War I diary kept by Edward Herbert Aubrey (1891-1963) from May 1917 to November 1917, with brief notes from 1918 and 1919. Some pages were removed and sent to relatives.
  • Parent Collection Description Edward Aubrey served from 10 February 1916 to 19 February 1919. He embarked on the Waihora in December 1916 with the New Zealand Expeditionary Force, 19th Reinforcements, New Zealand Mounted Rifles Brigade. Aubrey served in Egypt; and after being wounded on 5 November 1917 part of his left leg was amputated. Edward Aubrey spent his remaining service in medical care in Egypt and then Britain. On his return to New Zealand he returned to farming in the Omarama area on land won in a ballot as part of a Returned Soldiers' initiative.
