This database has been transcribed from the original handwritten cemetery records of the Christchurch City Council.
If you have found something you believe to be a mistake it may be the result of:
- an error in the original record in the register (such as incorrect initials and misspelled names)
- an error in the transcription process - some of the handwritten records were difficult to read.
The Cemeteries database is a true record of the cemetery registers, reproducing the information written in the registers. It reflects the historical nature of the material, including mistakes and errors of the time. We are happy to correct transcription errors and to include public notes of information that may offer correction to the original cemeteries records.
If you believe there is a mistake in any name recorded on the database please contact us.
The Christchurch City Council Cemeteries Administrator will check the original record in the register.
- If the error is the result of a mistake in the transcription process the database record will be corrected to reflect the details in the register.
- If the database record matches what is written in the original register the details on the database record will not be changed, but we will add a publicly available note recording the details supplied, the source of the information and the date the information was supplied.
To add a note with the additional information we will need to have details and copies of an alternate official record that confirms your correction.
For example: - a birth, death or marriage certificate;
- a military service record.
