- Transcription Dear Madam,
44004 - A. Mumford.
Many next-of-kin of deceased members of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force having from time to time expressed a desire for some form of document setting forth the soldier's service in the Great War, the Government has approved of the issue of a special illuminated certificate for the purpose.
One of these certificates, recording the service of the above-named soldier and certifying that he gave his life for his country, I forward to you herewith. I also take this opportunity of again expressing gratitude for your kinsman's service, and of assuring you that his sacrifice will ever be gratefully remembered.
Yours faithfully,
R Heaton Rhodes
