A collaboration between Christchurch City Libraries and the University of Canterbury, School of Fine Arts to create a documentary photographic record of the central city area of Christchurch in 2018. Thomas Herman, Elise Williams, and Summer Robson from the School of Fine Arts created a body of photographic images of people and the physical and social environment, a unique collection that reflects the diversity of the central city area in 2018.

Photography students from the University of Canterbury School of Fine Arts photographed the people and the physical environment from March through to September 2018.

The Christchurch Documentary Project is a collaboration between Christchurch City Libraries and the University of Canterbury School of Fine Arts to create a documentary photographic record of communities across our city. Each year, photography students from the School of Fine Arts photograph the people and physical and social environment of a community, building an archive of images for generations to come.
